I'm trying to persuade my husband to come and spend a day or two in either Oxford or Cambridge next fall. Since he's a physicist, he might prefer Cambridge, Isaac Newton and people like that--anyone know if there are plaques around Cambridge so that one can track famous historical figures?
Almost certainly. Every UK town or city has Blue Plaques erected to mark some famous person or event. It would be unimaginable that an historic and touristy place like Cambridge wouldn't be jam packed with them. They've probably got walking trails for them to. And Newton's childhood home with the famous orchard, in Woolthorpe in Lincolnshire isn't all that far from Cambridge. Certainly not by American standards anyway.

I have the opposite experience. I visited a friend studying abroad at Cambridge & it was beautiful! But I can't speak to Oxford.

I'm sure there is no poor decision here
