It was reported that the flight was 15m from landing. Have not looked but i bet ATC and the Pilot were given a fast approach to land. Maybe shaving while landing is not a good idea. Or its just the minute s/he took to review the situation was better to continue CPR then take time to shave his chest while the plane was landing.
It reported that he was shaved and he was zapped. Maybe s/he was waiting till the plane was slowing on the runway and in taxi to do it.
There are always razors included in the AED kit. We are trained to use it if necessary. I cant imagine why she didnt do that.
That said, using the AED does NOT insure a good outcome. Yes, it can help in certain medical situations...for sure. But, it is not a cure-all and people can still die even if it is used. Still, she absolutely should have tried.
How do you know she didn't shave him? Because the (understandably) grieving widow said she didn't?
In fairness, shouldn't we all wait until a full investigation is completed?
As an FYI, one can also stick the pads, rip the hair off, and reapply new pads (if available). The pads should have been placed ASAP to check the rhythm, but it is possible the man could have been in an unshockable rhythm in which case CPR would have been the only viable option anyway.
Wow. I've been to a couple of AED training classes and I can't remember a thing about shaving or razors.... yikes!
Maybe you went to CPR training? Either that, or you didn't listen well. This IS a major issue for utilizing AED.
