We have been traveling from DFW TX to FL and back using I-10 from Lafayette across the Gulf Coast to Lake City FL then south on 75--
the section from Mobile to Lake City isn't really a bad trip either direction
but from Mobile to Lafayette, it is horrible...
we are considering using SH 98 north out of Mobile to Hattisburg then SH49 to Jackson and I-20--going into DFW from there...
on Mapquest it is about an hour shorter but that might not be the only factor...
Anyone make that trip recently and have info on current construction, speed traps, rest stops going N, and other +/- factors from actually driving it???
I will Google for some info but internet info can be unreliable compared to actual travelers...
insight as to heavy truck traffic, areas where the road is unusually rough or long stretches where you can't pull over to walk your dog would be relevant to us...
My husband is a great driver but that I-10 stretch is wearing him down...
