Agreed, especially if you just want to chill on the beach. Miami beaches are great but right now they are packed too. I guess Cancun would be packed too but it's a much better deal and IMO a better place to just chill.
On a different note, how is the weather over in Mia right now for relaxing on the beach?

Google weather says 78. I was in Miami a couple months ago and it was well in the 80s. Now that it's March the weather is going to really start warming up. There might still be a couple days in the low 70s if you get unlucky, but chances are it'll be in the 80s.
I just got an alert from Tripadvisor.com that there were some roundtrip flights from Philly to Fort Lauderdale for only $175. That's a good deal!
If a person makes a trip to Miami for two or three days I think it is possible to do it for $700 ... but just remember the taxi or car service transportation to and from the airport alone might set you back $45 - $75. Also, If you find a $90 per night hotel room - which is considered very economical in Miami if it's not the summer "off-season" - be mindful that tourist taxes will add another $20 per night on the price of that room.
I agree with burgler09: Miami is always more expensive than what you budget.

A recommendation on getting to/from the hotel:
If you fly into FLL, you hop on the tri-rail to the metro rail. If you fly in to MIA, the metro rail now goes directly to/from the airport. Saves a lot of money! For as much as people love to hate on the metro rail, it is actually quite convenient.
MIA also has a bus service directly to South Beach. There are also busses that take you from Brickell to Miami Beach.
Still, as Clark Park said.. Miami is always a little more expensive than you expect as a tourist.
Damn. Now I really wanna go. My Priceline flight bids were all rejected today
