When I travel I generally go places where my iphone wouldn't be of use anyway (without great expense), so I generally leave it behind. Don't want it to get lost or damaged. I have a MP3 only device for listening.
Only downside is if I run into travel issues in a domestic airport and calling would be faster than waiting in line, but the risk of losing it/damaging it when I can't use it is outweighs that inconvenience.
