Getting there is the hard part. French Guiana is very hard to get to, it was recently necessary to fly there from Paris, but I understand there are now a few expensive flights from places like Martinique. I think Surinam and Guyana have very few flights from nearby destinations, and visas are not easy to get. None of them have any open land borders, except it is possible, on long and difficult roads, to enter southern Guiana from jungle roads in Brazil, but the road from the Brazilan border into Guyana is often impassable.
North Americans require a visa for Suriname prior to arrival, $100.
Reports from budget travelers indicate there is absolutely no place to sleep in French Guiane for less than about 50 euros, it is modern and just like France.
There are people who cross the borders illegally, apparently with no repercussions, but sometimes they are sent back by the police.
