Just got back from a wedding on Mackinac Island. Stayed at Mission Point. Visit trip advisor and read the reviews, the horrible reviews outweigh all the good put together. We went for a wedding so just stayed where everyone else was staying.

I don't need anything particularly fancy but for $340 per night you'd expect something pretty nice and good service.

Trip advisor reviews constantly talk about the poor service. We tried to call and cancel after reading reviews but were told it's a 2 week cancellation adn they had already taken the money out of our debit card.

Upon arrival we were told we didn't have a room they had overbooked. Everyone else at the desk had the same problem. The women at the desk to the right of us had prepaid 9 rooms 6 months earlier for an anniversary party and they had given her rooms away as well.

After going back and forth with several employees they finally got the manager who said she would give us one room for $189 which is the regular price. We had a group of 4 so one room wouldn't do it and $189 is the normal price for one room. After going back and forth some more we told them we were not leaving the desk until we got either two normal rooms or some kind of suite comprable to what we booked that would seat our group of 4. We finaly got two rooms that in the past were college dorm rooms with a shared bathroom.

I don't need fancy accomodations but for that kind of money you'd expect some decent service. Service was horrible all around from the bartenders to the front desk staff to door guys.

Mackinac Island isn't really my type of place though I can see how if that's your thing you'd love it. Don't stay at mission point though. There's a ton of other hotels that are much nicer, have air conditioning unlike mission point, and are about half the price.

If you tried to change your reservation to a different hotel before you even arrived, and they had overbooked your room, sounds like a perfect opportunity to switch to a different hotel. How come you stayed?

Had we been able to cancel we could have made other accomodations. We arrived two hours before some prewedding activities so didn't hvae time to run around looking for another hotel.

Also, they had already charged us for the rooms so they already had our money, and lastly if you've ever been to Mackinac you know they don't allow cars on the island and mission point is kind of secluded so we would have had to walk about a mile with our bags in order to find another hotel that may or may not have rooms for us.
