Unfortunately women seem to love it, but I hate it.
Every time I hear about someones dream vacation its always some island or sandy beach. But to I loathe the beach and think its disgusting. Its humid, it smells like dead fish, sand gets everywhere, the waters salty, theres creepy fish around you that might bite you, its crowded, fish use that water as a toilet, etc. I much prefer vacationing in the mountains or a nice city. Even a place like Lake Tahoe where the water is fresh and has no creepy fish in it.
How does a fish get creepy? Does it stare at women's chests instead of their eyes? Also, do you think the fish in Lake Tahoe are mailing their waste to the ocean?
ROFL. Literally almost fell out of my chair laughing at this post. Creepy fish who stare at boobs and mail their poop to the Gulf. LOL.

The beach is a place that always sounds like a good idea but after a day of getting suntorched and ending up crusted in salt and sand in the butt crack, that's good enough for me. It gets a bit boring.
But I'm sure there are a lot of great beaches I have not been to, so I am always open to new ideas.
Ooooh Siesta is my favorite beach ever. The sand is so white and the water is so clear and beautiful. I used to go there every Sunday afternoon with one of my best friends while my poor fiance was at work. Bird Key beach is nice too.
I can't WAIT until next summer when my fiance and I move back. I only hope the oil spill doesn't ruin my paradise.
Well if you hate the beach, then you hate the beach.
As for the woman's perspective? If we are talking vacations, and not JUST laying on the beach well...
It's romantic and sensual... bikinis, pareos, hot skin scented with coconut oil...tropical drinks, turquoise waters...
I always wanted a tropical vacation, but my husband always wanted cool weather ones (we live in Hawaii). So I went and spent the vacation in so many layers I looked like the Michelin Man. Um.. any romantic inclinations? Don't even THINK about it unless you can get the temp over 80 degrees.
A hot summer at Lake Tahoe would have done just as well. And BTW I've been to lakes that skeeved me out.... nasty mud, reeds, and clam-thingys you have to walk through. /shudder
PS: I'm new - so "hi" to everyone from a long time reader, new poster.

Don't like the beach too much either. First, the water is filthy (who knows how many men took a pee there), it takes a while for water to get out of your nose if one of the waves hits you and finally it's boring being only on the shore.
One time I swam a bit too far and hard trouble making it back... a dude had to help me. I might have possibly become tried and develop cramps... then drown.
I like swimming, not staying on the shore due to fear of not making it back.
The pool is better... Wish there was a 10 ft or above pool near my area.

Lake Tahoe is OK, but go a little further north and in Oregon check out Crater Lake or Lake Waldo. Find a pristine glacial lake. Now you're ready to really enjoy your vacation.
I don't like humid, stinky, crowded, hot, dirty beaches either. That's why I love the Oregon Coast.
Sorry, my reference was to the OP about the sea being a toilet. I've heard stories from lifeguards about what they find in a public pool and everyone knows about the urinating that goes on. I don't think the OP would feel any safer in a public pool.
My son is a lifeguard. Pools are nasty! I used to love swimming, but now I just relax BY the pool, not in it. We're not too sure what all that chlorine and the pool chemicals are doing to our bodies anyway...
