Garbage men aren't doing their jobs. They're leaving bags of garbage to rot on the streets if they aren't tagged. This is not only disgusting, but it is terrible for the environment and puts public health at risk. The privatization of garbage removal may be the only answer. If the current city garbage people do not want to do their jobs, I can think of thousands of other people who would do it for less. Shame shame shame.

If you have a better idea to enforce garbage fees for major offenders and encourage recycling/compost, lets hear it. And what does this have to do with the privatization of waste management?

What was wrong with the way things were before? Etobicoke uses contracted providers, saving their city a couple million dollars. We could do the same for Toronto and save millions.

You completely ignored my questions, so I will ask again: do you have a better idea to enforce garbage fees for major offenders and encourage recycling/compost, and what does it have to do with privatization of waste management.

Also, if you think privatization is such an amazing concept, I suggest you do a little research into the disastrous effect that the privatization of water and wastewater services had in Hamilton.

Major offenders? I'm not sure what you mean by that. People already know enough to recycle, but if we have to do something then put some money into advertising i guess.
If you think we should stay the course with the system we have i suggest you do a little research into the disastrous effects of last years garbage strike.

I'll take it you didn't look into anything I said, as the strike last summer was nothing compared to the hell Hamilton went through for years. I'm not necessarily against privatization, but I realize that there can be serious consequences to it that you seem to be choosing to ignore.

And by major offenders I mean those who put out insane amounts of trash. Making them pay more is a much more effective way to curb their waste output than advertising.

Something does need to change with our waste management system, the strike last summer was clear evidence of that, but to suggest that privatization is some sort of miracle solution (and our only solution at that) is ignorant.

Finally, the issue of the yellow bags/tags is unrelated to the current debate, and I am still confused about why you ever brought it up.
