Dear all,

Help me with municipal taxes please. Very confused.

My workplace is in Toledo, which has 2.25%.

1. If I were to live in Sylvania (which has 1.5% and reciprocity) then all I pay is 2.25% to Toledo.
2. If I were to live in Perrysburg (which has 1.5% and 0.5 of the reciprocity) then all I pay is 2.25% to Toledo AND 0.75% to Perrysburg.
3. If I were to live in Maumee (which has 1.5% and ???? of the reciprocity)

"Credit for taxes withheld or paid another city cannot exceed 1.5% of income taxed. Figure the credit by dividing the tax withheld by the other city's rate of tax times 1.5%."

This is from the official webpage, what the hell does it mean?

4. If I were to live in Waterville (which has 2% and the credit does not apply against the first 0.5% levied by Waterville) then all I pay is 2.25% to Toledo AND 0.5% to Waterville.

Is it correct? Anyone can help me with Maumee?

I believe Maumee is a 100% credit for Toledo taxes up to 1.5%, so you'd pay nothing extra to Maumee unless you had other Maumee income.

For Perrysburg and some other areas, there is another wrinkle -- a 0.5% school tax levied on top of the other Perrysburg income taxes with no offsets for Toledo taxes. Pburg total taxes would be 2.25% Toledo + 0.5% Pburg school tax + 0.75% Pburg income tax.

If you live in Michigan, current tax law allows you to have a credit for your Toledo income taxes against your Michigan state income taxes.

Thank you a lot for the reply! I thought no one would answer this one. The information about this important topic is rare in the internet.

I found the same thing when I moved to Toledo. Realtors don't talk about income taxes either. Income and property taxes vary a lot depending on where you live.

Good luck with the move.

There also is a website... search Ohio Municipal Tax Finder... that will show you the taxes for any address in Ohio. Sometimes you will have a mailing address that is different from your actual municipality or school district.
