Grew up down the road for Mesquite and live in San Antonio and I would say San Antonio might be the better choice.

About as different as white and dark white. Both are in major metro areas where interracial couples are as common as muck. You'd have to be a pretty odd pair/couple to raise eyebrows.

I used to have family in Mesquite and that place is really scary. Or atleast the part where my used to aunt live.

Drug dealers literally at the stop light median.

I haven't been there since 2001 so maybe it's changed but my aunt moved because it was so bad.

As for racial issue. San Antonio is one of the most racially harmonial major cities in america.

Default San Antonio (multi-racial)

I would pick San Antonio. Where else would you have a festival every year that celebrates numerous cultures (Texas Folklife Festival)?
