San antonio or San angelo? While visiting Austin last month we did some driving in the hill country and really liked it. We noticed that the property taxes were high and wondered what they were in the S/Antonio area vs the s/Angelo on a home in the 170,00 range.

Speaking on behalf of San Antonio, it depends if you buy in the city or in the county, the taxes will vary. Here are some sites with information that should help you.

San Angelo is the 2nd highest taxed city in Texas (don't know who is first). In addition, the school system is trying to pass a huge, for SA, bond, and have talked in the past of eliminating the homestead exemption. Before I moved last year the city experienced a city wide water failure and many parts were out of water for days.People in apt complexes were literally scooping water out of the pools to flush toilets, and many resteraunts had to close because of no running water. And this problem hasn't been fixed, only Bandaided. There is going to have to be a major redo of the entire water system, and that will drive taxes up even more. One apt complex burned to the ground about a year ago because the fire hydrants around it failed and the FD couldn't get water.

In addition,Angelo is one of the lowest paying places in TX. I personally enjoyed living there and the people are great, but there are some problems and newcomers should go in with both eyes open.
