I agree, Dewitt . . . but why ONLY in Texas?

In spite of anti noise laws in most municipalities, generally speaking, local law enforcement officers prefer to turn a deaf ear.

Simple solution . . . on the first offense a citation! Repeat offenders should have their vehicle seized on the spot.

The only way your going to stop tehm is to outlaw the making of the radios. We don't need another law for police to try to enforce.Thge anwer really is taching vaues to our children and hope for a better future. The police have enough on thier hands that is more important then hoping to identify the source of sub woofer sounds in unmarked units. I hate it too but enforcement by the police is not the answwer for everything.Heck tehy are too few to deal with the numbers of drunk potential murders driving on the roadways.

I agree. I hate those sub woofers too. Can't stand when one is right next to me in Traffic, they are almost nauseating (literally), but new laws will do nothing. We already have noise laws on the books that aren't followed.

The only way to outlaw them is to make it a state law regarding inspections. No car inspected with those specially designed speakers added to cars. AND, if we could ask for help from insurance companies regarding liabilities in accidents when these boomers are on. We have had many accidents because these drivers could not hear the sirens.

I despise them. I'd love to see them gone. I'd like to know why the laws are not enforced.

I agree that it can be annoying, but I think a law against it is completely unnecessary. I'm sure a few wrecks have happened because of loud speakers, but ordinary straight-from-the-factory speakers are loud enough to block out sirens. The only way to solve that problem would be a federal regulation telling car manufacturers how loud car speakers could be, and even then there would be a problem with imports. No offence, but only a police state would be able to enforce such a trivial law just to prevent a couple of wrecks.

I don't think that a law prohibiting loud sound systems specifically is necessary, but a general law prohibiting very loud exhausts, "music", or anything else disturbing the paece excessively is called for. One can have a sound system with 1200 watts but not play it excessively loud, just as one can have a 500-hp car without flooring the accelerator all the time. (I used to have one of the latter, and the temptatation was always there!) It would be a simple matter for the police to carry portable sound pressure level meters, to be used when the situation presents itself. That wouldn't require the imposition of a police state.

It isn't simply a matter of preventings wrecks. It's also a matter of giving others the relative freedom not to be forced to listen to others' execrable taste in music.

Excessive noise laws are already on the books.

Cops have other things to worry about.
