Hi folks!!

I am heading to visit relatives in Temple, TX and on the way out, we are going to check out Amarillo and have some of the local amazing Big Texan Ranch steaks.... can I eat 4 and 1/2 lbs of beef under 1 hour to get it for free.... nah!! hehe... I wish I could!

But because I am from out of town and my relatives in Temple are TOTALLY clueless, can you guys tell me if the following areas are safe, pretty please?

Is Longview safe?? Is Amarillo safe??

In Longview: I am staying @ the Days Inn Longview. 3103 Estes Parkway (I-20), Longview, TX.

Here is a map for the Longview hotel:

In Amarillo: I am staying @ the Best Western Amarillo Inn. 1610 S Coulter Street, Amarillo, TX . This hotel is next door to the Baptist St. Anthony hospital.

Here is a map for the Amarillo hotel:

Can you guys tell me whether these hotels are in safe area or not? I am concerned about car window smash, car thefts, or robberies. Anything like that in the hotel areas?

I would appreciate any honest response soon.... I will be leaving within a week!!!

Thanks for the imput! I cannot wait to hang out in Texas! Good food, good people, and tons of sunshine!!

TheDude!

Though I'm sure you will be fine at that hotel in Longview, I would personally feel more comfortable at one of the locations on the Loop.

Three at Loop 281 and 4th Street; Comfort Suites, Fairfield, & Wingate Inn.

One behind Texas Roadhouse and Double Dave's Pizza; Best Western.

One across from mall & behind Papacita's(on Tuttle); Holiday Inn Express-North.

Default amarillo best western

yep, its just fine. Kind of out-of-the way but its ok. You do realize Big Texan is WAY down I-40 from your hotel? Its a good choice for "local" flavor though. Most of the motel/hotels on the I-40 corridor are nice.

That's wonderful news! I REALLY apreciate your imput on this!

On the Longview comment...... hey, is that Days Inn bad? Is it dirty or something?

I will check on the Holiday Inn express.... thanks for the tip.

****

On the Amarillo comment... wow, I had no clue Big Texan was that far out! But they DO have a "limo service" that picks you up and drops you off in the restaurant! I need to call and see if the limo will come and get us all the way in the hotel or not.....

Side note: We picked those hotels based on pricing (of course) but also on their location on our route. We are only driving 1,900 miles across the country!!

Anyone has any more imput??? Any additional comments would be GREATLY appreciated!

In Amarillo, if you like seafood, go to Scott's Oyster Bar. It's the best. It's on Western and Paramount.

TravelingDude - oh, the limo would be fun! Anyway its not a "bad" drive, its just all the way across town on the interstate (10 miles?) We're used to driving a distance around here though. Amarillo is spread out over a lot of area.

Not sure if you've already made your trip but the Days Inn on Estes Pkwy. is just in an old part of town. It's easily accessible though b/c it's right off of I20. If you really wanted to stay at nicer hotels, you would need to travel into the city, closer to Loop 281. But, not being from Longview, it may be difficult to get around.
