I grew up near Kerrville and really like it. Probably not as "liberal" as Austin, but nothing in TX is.

I live in the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose bay area, and I'm thinking of relocating to Kerrville/Fredericksburg, too. How'd two such obviously urbane and ... um .. "couth" folks get the same idea? Have you been looking for real estate?

We are thinking of leaving the "coast" mostly because of the "rabble" it attracts, looking for a small town, doctor and hospital available and friendly Texans, also lots of low humidity would be welcome, any suggestions?

Kerrville is slightly off the beaten path in the Hill Country. I would recommend New Braunfels or Spring Branch. Kerrville has had some reports of gang activity. I would relocate nearer to San Antonio for convenience and safety.

I really hope they have made their decision within the last 9 years.

I would trust there are other readers of C-D than the OP... Maybe even a couple folks interested in Kerrville today!

July 2016...update
Haven't noticed any gang activity.
Taco Casa still running 2 locations, as is HEB, Whataburger, and Sonic (and McD)

Quite a bit of new building going on (fancy homes, a few apartments)
Schreiner U is getting a new entryway. Schreiner University | Find Your Way Here
James Avery is nearing completion of new factory near Airport. James Avery Jewelry Visitor Center - Kerrville TX | James Avery
VA medical has added new residential unit buildings
New executive senior cottage village going in near movie theater
Peterson Medical facility is quite new and expanding services. ( many people still go to Fredericksburg or Boerne for medical)

Gibsons is still the place to go for unique items / hardware.

Lots of "retirees" and "recover-ies".... , 2 class society, but accepting and friendly,
Plenty of Thrift Stores
Lots of vacant industrial space ( since NAFTA)
Mooney has some new aircraft, and is hiring. http://www.mooney.com/en/index.html

Basically, a pretty, welcoming, and affordable Hill Country town with full services. Quite close and accessible to event centric locales, and home of Folk Music Festival.

I live in a tourist town in New Mexico, noted for it's large population of both retirees and vacation home owners. And I have known several acquaintances who chose to move to Kerrville after finding they could no longer enjoy good health because of the altitude here. I understand nearby Boerne is another town that is attracting many retirees now.
