what is the real problem is that in TX this attitude/policy gets accepted very readily by the local people--who view the ones getting ripped off as outsiders who probably "deserve" what they get, who don't care as long as the money does not come out of their pockets since it does work to reduce their tax portion, who elect sheriffs/judges/mayors who look the other way when confronted with illegal application of the laws...
it will be very interesting to see if TX legislators do anything to amend the legal statue which has allowed this piracy to develop/continue...
and just goes to show that racism is alive and well in plenty of areas of the 21st century...

the fact that the police/sheriffs depts are taking the easy way out of giving lip service to combating the drug trade--and doing NOTHING to really stop the meth labs and trafficking in their areas just proves that they are callous and self-serving--and pretty stupid about law enforcement techniques...
they personify ALL the stereotypes that people have about backwoods law enforcement--so I don't see how anyone can complain when the story makes the national news
it really IS old news--has been going on for years--local papers can't afford to go on a campaign to reverse it or bring it to light because THEY would be harassed by the people they are putting in the spotlight
THIS needs to be taken up by the Justice dept of the Fed--just like the FBI went into Selma to find out about the bombings---it will NEVER be cleaned up by people who live/work in the local areas where the outrages are being perpetrated...

After this thread was started it took a full day before anyone dared to respond. People are scared of revenge by those who enforce with an iron fist holding up those huge donut spare tire bellies. It's good to see some more responses and some anger expressed. Sometimes I feel I am the only one wanting to defend ourselves from the strong arm thugs, members of the worlds largest street gang. Locals talk here. We are afraid to walk our parks, not from criminals, but from the cops. If your out walking your dog at night you will be stopped and shaked down.

I first mentioned this stop and seize crap is still happening up 59. By my own observations and a little research I can verify this is still happening just 20 minutes north of down town Houston. We hang out in a Cowboy dance club on 59 in Shepherd and people are talkng. They are afraid to leave the club for fear of who might be hiding in wait like a cat after it's prey. Business is down and it's not because of the economy.

Just recently ABC News 13 reported "Deputy stops man for traffic violation in New Caney,Tx, but ends up seizing his cash and jewelry", if your a person of color driving up Highway 59 the robber you encounter might be the local crooked law. I came across more recent articles in the local paper Eastex Advocate, with simular stories. Not always against blacks.

If you drive up and down 59 enough like me you can watch the paterns. One day you wont see a pig at all and for 2 days in a row it seems like a dragnet targeting blacks, all pulled from their cars. Then yet another day all you see are trucks being pulled over while everyone else is ignored.

Coincidence? I dont think so.

I suspect this theead will die quick because citizens are afraid to speak up. The only thing more dangerous then cops are those who like and trust cops. Next time it may be you pulled over when you feel you are obeying the law. And it will be you pulled out to be searched while your children watch asking why.

I was wondering, could a group like the Black Panthers run armed "escort" vehicles up and down that stretch of highway? I mean, the guns would be legal and they wouldn't be breaking any speed limits or anything. Just armed observers, like they've done at polling places and other locations where they believe AAs are being deprived of their civil rights. Seems right up their alley, and would certainly bring a media circus along with it, which sounds like it is needed out down there...

Let me add that I have been planning a journey that would have taken me through this general area. And I have changed my plans.

I refuse to participate in a local economy that relies on persecution. And what is up with the same mayor for 54 years???

This little Volkswagen will be road tripping elsewhere.....

In some form your idea can work. But the govt and/or oink oinks will just call it an unlawful assembly or hindering traffc flow. They will think of something. We cant beat them. Police corruption has gone so far now that like the this economic depression, I have doubts we can ever fix it.

Why would anyone be scared to post a message expressing anger over some crooked cops on an anonymous internet forum?

Well, it needs to be stopped. Can't the Federal government do something about it? It needs to go to a higher level. This amounts to terrorism.
