I stand by my comment that San Antonio and the Valley are similar--they are similar in regards to religion, food, demographics, language, importance of family, and weather.

Similar does not mean identical.

If I may stick my head in.

Similar in food, perhaps, only that SA is known for Tex-Mex but the overall food offerings in SA compared to the Valley, well, the Valley pales in comparison.

Demographics? Not really.

The Valley at about 1.1 million has the following demographics:

86 percent Hispanic
12 percent white
.5 percent black
.5 percent Asian
.4 native American

San Antonio at a little over 2 million has the following demographics:

51 percent Hispanic
36 percent White
8 percent black
2 percent Asian
.8 percent Native American

Vastly different in terms of percentage. I.E. the makeup of each region is vastly different.

I'm not sure what you mean by language. Both regions are in the US so English is the first language at least in San Antonio it is.

I would think importance of family was a keystone in all metro areas in this country.

You have all the right to believe that but I also have the right to say that the only similarities SA has with "the Valley" is their Mexican/Latin culture/influence and they're both in the state of Texas. I guess also they're both in the same humid sub tropic
region of climate that 1/4 of the US is also in.

I guess Houston is silmilar as well with 41% of the population is hispanic.

San Antonio and the Valley don't have much anything in common. The only thing would be the hispanic population, but a huge difference in total percentage. Economic wise the difference is like night and day. San Antonio is Military City USA which is one factor that it attracts residents form all over, which equals a much broader etnic background. San Antonio was founded by Spaniards but also has a strong German influence. The inner city has German and Irish districts and Many of it's metro cities are German settled. Castroville, New Braunfels,Boerne are German settled and I believe Seguin. You will not find that on the Texas-Mexico Border. San Antonio's african population is close to 100,000 so it would be like if all Mc Allen where african American. San Antonio is best known for it's Hispanic Flavor but it also has a Muli-facet diversty as well, the Valley has one face.

El Paso has over 300 days of Sun Shine, so if you don't like the rain/snow, El Paso is the place to go. We're the only major city in the state with a mountain back-drop to our small skyline, making for beautiful sunrises and sunsets Daily. Plenty of mountain trails to go on, plus Scenic Drive which gives you a panoramic view of El Paso, CD. Juarez, and parts of New Mexico. Crime is LOW in this city, ranked in the top 3 safest cities of its size (~700,000) annually. There are so many high schools here that not one has more than 3000 students (though one is VERY close). We're often being told that we're very friendly and passive, so you'll be welcome here VERY easily.

The only downsides are traffic, which is caused by MAJOR urban sprawl out here in the Far East side. We're always reading about the Mexican drug murders/violence in Juarez, and wonder why it hasn't spilled into the US. And the ongoing Public Corruption case that the FBI is looking into.

True, but we're known for it. We're not called the Sun City for nothing.
