Growing up in Longview, I rarely heard any negative comments about Tyler. More praises than negativity or sneer remarks.

Longview-Marshall is a very different animal. My parents are from Marshall and even though my Mom supported the Lobos because her children were Lobos my Dad never really did. And it goes beyond HS football. But Marshall is Longview's true real rivalry. The little tense moments between Longview and Tyler pale in comparison to that.
To be honest, I don't think either of us have the intel to claim what is in the minds of people - a small portion, or a medium portion,or a large portion. I have seen and experienced it first hand, you haven't - that really doesn't prove anything one way or the other.

I never even think about Marshall, except when I drive through it which isn't often.

Fair enough. Also as far as Marshall you’d have to be born and raised in East Texas to know what I mean when I talk about the rivalry. If you have no generational or family ties in between the 2 areas but just moved to the area with no direct ties than of course you wouldn’t think about it.

That's very true. I mean, I've lived and worked in both Longview and Tyler for 25 years but never Marshall. It's just not a city I think about unless I drive through it and then I think "Glad I don't live here!" LOL

Lol. Good luck explaining how Tyler manages to be a Wonderland while Marshall somehow isn't. To the vast majority of the population, they might as well be the same place.

I personally like Marshall. Despite being much smaller, I find it to be the more historically charming and naturally beautiful city in East Texas. Nacogdoches is another favorite.

The differences are too numerous to bother listing but they are apparent to "the vast majority of the population" living in either of them.

I'm glad you like Marshall. I wouldn't want to live there but so what. That doesn't mean I hate it.

I also wouldn't want to live in Nacogdoches.

But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate things about either place. In fact, I actually do appreciate both places. And Longview. They all have their pros and cons, as does Tyler for that matter. It's just a matter of personal preference.

Sorry, nope, you apparently DON'T really know Tyler. Marshall and Tyler can hardly BE compared. Now, hold on, hold on, there is NOTHING WRONG with Marshall. I'm not casting stones on Marshall. lol

NO, a far larger percentage of the POPULATION of Tyler is in different occupations. Far more white-collar, professional, higher average incomes. Just a difference, not necessarily BETTER, or more superior.

Yes, Marshall can be thought of is being historically more charming. The courthouse in Marshall is fantastic compared to the eyesore ugliest courthouse in America, located in TYLER, lol Do you notice we sometimes, point out that Tyler is not the complete total WONDERLAND some of you think we think Tyler is. lol

Follow? Lastly, again, for the millionth, time, Tyler IMHO is just one of the few better places for its SIZE in which to live in TEXAS, not the one of the best in the WORLD, lol

IMHO it's just hard to put MARSHALL and TYLER in the same sentence and make a logical comparison. You sound offended, which was not my intent.

Yeah, but that's not really what you said before. "Glad I don't live here!" sounds like a slight to me.

I'd be interested in hearing more about the numerous differences. Never lived in either, but I have visited and they're hardly different worlds from my experience.

You can look at both cities on paper and clearly see they are not the same place. Now try explaining to someone in Miami, Houston or New York why they should definitely choose one over the other and the differences won't seem so clear.

Personally I think I'd choose Marshall. Much smaller, yes, but you're not in a bad spot with Shreveport and Longview less than 45 minutes away.
