When I was growing up in Suburban Houston San Jacinto Day was a school holiday in the district I attended. I wonder how many school districts in Texas still observe this holiday, much less even acknowledge it ?

Happy San Jacinto Day Texas...

Oh.. yeah... Easter... on San Jacinto Day.

Last year, Easter was on April Fool's Day, the 1st.

December 25th is rock solid. Why does Easter 'float'?

A visit to the battlefield is interesting. I thought I read awhile back that they were going to remove the reflecting pond to make the site a bit more like the original appearance. Not sure if they've done that yet.

You can easily google this.

It's because it follows Passover which is Lunar based.

Also, the Orthodox celebrate on a separate day because they still follow the Julian calendar, not the Gregorian one. In 2017 they actually lined up to be the same day as happens sometimes.

Apologies, C24L. Didn't mean to hijack your post/subject. As you and Treasurevalley92 aptly explain, it goes back to the Lunar schedule, a time before Christianity changed the world, when Sun/Moon worship was all the rage.

According to... Google Earth.... it's still there. Don't really see the reasoning to spend a bunch of money on removing the Reflecting Pool to recreate the battle field, unless there was a reenactment movement going on, which would be shunned in this current environment of hurt feelings from past Anglo events (The Revolution; The Texas Independence; The Civil War, etc).
