I think anyone traveling to Texas should visit these websites.

The Daytripper
Texas Highways
Texas Monthly

They tell you what to see, do and eat beyond theme parks.

In San Antonio, I would do the standard Alamo and Riverwalk and then go to some of the surrounding areas to visit other missions. I would also visit the Marketplaces.

Schlitterbahn is all well and good, but there are also things to do along the real river. I would also go to Gruene Hall, Canyon Lake, the various Vineyards, Wimberly.

In Galveston I'd also visit the Strand, tour some of the Historic mansions, do some deep sea fishing and also pick my lunch and dinner from whatever has been fresh caught that day.

Native Texan here, and I can honestly say I have never visited any of these places.

There are just so many more neat things to see in Texas than a theme park...

Relatively new to Texas-here's what we've done and enjoyed

Dallas Arboretum ( try and go multiple times a year as it constantly changes)
White Rock Lake
San Antonio Riverwalk
Missions and markets of San Antonio
Little bits of Austin -so far
Nashua Sculpture Gardens
Fort Worth longhorn cattle drive
Grapevine Grapefest and wineries
Natural Bridge Caverns
Hill Country/Fredricksburg/
The Cave with No Name
Fort Worth Water Gardens
Fort Worth Botanical Gardens
Texas State Fair
Seaworld

Things I want to do
South Padre Island
Palo Canyon
Houston Space Museum
To go fishing in the Gulf

and a whole pile of other things too-just need to find some spare time...

Bayou Bend State Park for the alligators, mammoth Live Oaks, and observatory. That's just me, though.

Wut? You don't have any kids uh? Lol

I'm a Native as well and with the exception of taking our son to Sea World, I've never done any of those places either.

My suggested list of things to do in Texas:

-The Alamo
-State Capital Building (at night)
-Texas Rangers Game
-Cowboys Game
-Astros Game
-Texas Motor Speed way event
-Texas State Fair (It's almost Time!)
-Big Bend National Park
-Cadilac Ranch
