Which of these neighborhoods do you think provides the best experience and most amenities for a pedestrian and has the most walkable feel?

More specifically (some sub questions):
Which would be best to live in without a car?
Which provides the best experience in terms of walking between shops, restaurants, and bars?
Which feels the most like an urban neighborhood where people live in and walk to places?
Which is safest for pedestrians?
Which seems to have the most crowded streets (with pedestrians), both day and night?

Nothing else really matches Uptown Dallas, especially for young professionals. It's a large area and the few developable lots left are getting filled with new big projects. The lines between Uptown, and Knox/Henderson are blured. The Klyde Warren Park over Woodall Rodgers has bridged the gap between Uptown and DT Dallas, and a lot of development is sprouting up in Downtown Dallas. Plus Turtle Creek and Oak Lawn border Uptown to the north, it's all going to be one large dense urban area, unlike anything else in Texas.

Downtown Dallas, Inc. Revitalizing The City - You + Dallas

Uptown would be the answer to all your sub questions.

Since this is the "Dallas" forum, you are not likely to get an accurate representation of Texas thoughts on this subject. You should ask this question in the "Texas" forum.

I'm surprised Midtown is getting so few votes.

If we are talking about the single most walkable neighborhood in Texas, I would have to go with Uptown Dallas closely followed by Downtown Austin. That doesnt mean I think Dallas and Austin are the most walkable cities overall, but I do think those are the most walkable neighborhoods.

To me, Downtown San Antonio still holds the crown as the most pedestrian friendly neighborhood in Texas.

Uptown Dallas is quite impressive and I think it probably holds a close second, maybe tied with Austin's 6th street. Midtown Houston is still in the making and is currently booming, so it shouldn't be written off yet.

But I think Downtown Fort Worth, Rice Village and Montrose Houston deserve to be on this list.
