To The People of Texas and
All Americans In The World

Fellow citizens & compatriots,

I am beseiged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna -- I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man -- The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken -- I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls -- I shall never surrender or retreat. Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism, & every thing dear to the American character, to come to our aid, with all dispatch -- The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country --

VICTORY OR DEATH

William Barret Travis
Lt. Col. Comdt.

Never Forget

We true Texans will never forget! Thanks so much -- TXRyan -- for posting Travis' appeal to his fellow "Texicans" to come to the aid of those brave men who chose to fight and die, rather than surrender.

Yes, yes, I know the inconoclatic cynics (and Texas-bashers) will call it silly, romantic and pick apart the motives of those at the Alamo. Or the Texas Revolution itself for that matter. This type usually do; they are very fearless and righteous when it comes to attacking those who are not around to defend themselves...

God Bless Texas!

Last week I was in San Antonio and went by the Alamo early in the morning before all the traffic. In the quiet I noticed that it was on February 23rd that Travis and his group arrived at the Alamo and it was that very day that I was there. I looked to the southwest where the gate would have been at that time and imagined what it might have been like on that day some 177 years ago.

Actually, it might help your case (whatever it is) if you learned to write coherent English!
