Our youngest son is autistic, and my mother in Florida recently got autism awareness specialty plates for her car...

Texas has specialty tags for a lot of organizations, but not for autism awareness.

Does anyone know how we could recommend the state adopt similar tags?

Thanks! M2

I'm totally surprised Texas doesn't have them. They've got them for everything, even alumni associations for out of state schools. Here in Oklahoma we have a much more limited selection and even we have autism awareness plates.

Work through your state representative. It took years to get the Choose Life plate.

I know, I can get one for my alma mater in Florida (Gator Nation) but I can't get an autism one for my son!

The state (generally speaking) is happy to do just about any (inoffensive) specialty plate if they believe there will be enough interest in purchasing them to cover the expense of making a specialty plate. Try and find out what the sales numbers are for the states that have them. FL would be a good start, due to large population.
