Intra-metro rivalries:

Northside Houston vs Southside Houston. (I'm not even describing this but there's an episode on BET about it if you want to see it)

Dallas vs Fort Worth (Dallas has "yuppies", Fort Worth has hippies, and most significant stuff in the area is in the middle of the two such as AT&T Park, GlobeLife Park in Arlington, 6 Flags, DFW airport, etc).

Beaumont-Port Arthur (two biggest towns in the "Golden Triangle", natural rivalry)
The golden triangle hasn't been "golden" in decades, pa losing thousands of population, b as well, steady recently, hurricanes, oil, general "no desire" to live there, just saying, you can leave this one, off.

You may not be fond of the Golden Triangle, but it's a real place with real people and is every bit as culturally significant as any other region of this state.

Austin (everyone else) - hippies & goverment & UT
Austin (themselves) - so different and better than the rest of TX
Lubbock & Amarillo = dust
East TX = southern hicks
south TX = mexicans
west TX = ranches & cows & cowboys
Galveston = dumpy ocean
Corpus Christi = fishing ocean
South Padre - spring break
Midland/Odessa = oil and gas wells
Rivalries:
Dallas vs Houston
College Station vs Austin (best university in TX - stronger in College Station - probably injured by A&Ms move out of Big12)
Lubbock vs College Station (college football -stronger in Lubbock) -probably killed by A&Ms move out of Big12.
Llano vs Elgin - bbq
Shiner vs everywhere else - beer
Rice vs SMU (best private college)
Love it! Awesome list.

"Raise kids in Midland, raise hell in Odessa."

TTU's main rival is UT, not A&M.
SMU vs TCU - a microcosm of the whole Dallas vs Ft. Worth rivalry
Shiner vs everywhere else? No, there is no better beer than Shiner.
SA dislikes Austin
the rest of Texas grudgingly tolerates Austin, but only because the capitol is there
apparently, Austin hates Houston (jealousy, it seems)
surprisingly, there is no rivalry between the Cowboys and the Texans (but nobody likes Jerry Jones OR the late Bud Adams)

"Surprisingly"?

There's no reason for there to be a rivalry. The Texans haven't been around long enough or done nearly even for there to BE a rivalry...

TheOverdog pretty much nailed it.

Really? UT has never regarded Tech as a "rival". UT's only rival is Oklahoma.

Some of these are decent, but you seem to have an interesting perception on best universities/private colleges in the state..

US News Top National University Rankings
-Best Texas Universities in the top 100

Rice - 18
UT - 52
SMU - 61
A&M - 70
Baylor - 72
TCU - 82

As you can see, its not even close which school is the best in Texas. It sure isnt UT or A&M.
