Title says it all. I graduated December 2011 from Tarleton and got an internship on the Comanche Ranch through a friend of my grandfather's who did all the mapping for the place. It's been a good experience, but it has definitely set in that I've got a lot of work ahead of me before I'm able to just walk into a ranch management/biologist job of my own. My internship ends at the end of the month. Donnie told me to never turn something down because you think the work is below you. I'm trying to take that to heart. It's tough. I'm isolated from my friends and family and I'm not making much money, but I'm hoping the experience here will be more valuable than what I'm currently paid. The forb collection I'm working on is about the only thing that I feel I needed to go to college for in regards to the actual work I'm doing. Just getting a few months of thoughts off my chest. Sigh of relief lol. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is how a lot of people get jobs, but especially in this line of work. It is all about who you know. Get your foot in the door, work your tail off, and word will get around to the point that you will start getting offers. Growing up in the Hill Country, I have several friends that do this for a living, and know many others in this line of work. There is good money to be made, and more and more rich retirees are looking to create a big game ranch of their own. Network, network, network.....
