I know Ron Paul isn't big on Rick Perry but they should team up together.

That would be a Texas overkill.

The only thing that might save us from President Perry is the anti Texas sentiment still in the air from King George the first and King George the II.

The US is not ready for another president so heavily tied in the image of Texas as Perry.

Ron Paul hardly ever gets saddled with the Texas Image.

King George II works really hard playing Texan but he's not a Native Texas. Rick Perry on the other hand is Native Texan. There is a slight difference. I can't really go much futher than that but I think Rick Perry has a strong chance.

Perry can't win swing states.

Bo I hope we can talk about where Perry can or can't win.

But I don't see easy wins for Perry in Florida, NJ, CO, NM, etc.
The latinos in those states are too deep in it for Obama.

He may win back, FL, Virginia, and Indiana, but that does not give him enough EC votes for the win.

He would have to win back all the Bush states and Some of those Bush himself won very narrowly. Bush won NM, NV and Iowa by one percent. Not enough cushion there. Obama won NM by 15 points and the other two by nine. Those states swung heavily democratic because of the change in demographic.

Indiana was the biggest swing in favor of the democrats, it went from 21 percent win to Bush to 1 percent Obama. States like that one and NC will be easy to win back, but not the others.

anyway, it is too far out to make strong predictions, but Perry is a very polarizing figure and polarizing figures don't win.

Republicans solidified their wins in 4 states in 08, LA, AR, TN, OK (all southern states that Perry is gonna do well in anyway) You can't pick a guy who will strengthen where you are already strong but weak in the close states.

in 08 the republicans were talking about flipping Oregon, Michigan, PA, and Wisconsin but the Dems increased their leads in those states. The republicans needs someone who can flip Michigan, Oregon or Wisconsin not someone who is gonna secure Texas for the party

That is generally true. Whether it holds true in 2012 is anybody's guess.

I will say, I do like the idea of keeping Texas politicians away from the national level

Ron Paul I don't mind. He is not that polarizing and he is actually closer to the average Texan in ideology. The average Texan is a libertarian, not a conservative like Perry.

The republicans are not ready for a Libertarian President though. Maybe they need a few rounds of embarrassing loses to get their act in order

Ron Paul is the only candidate that makes any sense. Personal freedom (so smaller government...aka War on Drugs), ending wars overseas, ending the IRS, etc. Perry is just more status quo. Ron Paul doesn't get love from Fox News, so you know he won't do anything. Ron Paul easily has the best chance in the national election against Obama, since he can garner a lot of youth votes. Hell, most of Paul's supporters are young liberals.

yeah I agree. I vote for my politicians to take care of business. not to be peeping through my window all concerned with who I am sleeping with tonight.
