I can't always afford to drive to parks like Brazos Bend near Houston, or to Sea Rim State Park in Port Arthur (both have tons of gators). Places in and around Tyler, Longview, Texarkana, Marshall and Daingerfield are much closer for me (Sea Rim SP is like 6 1/2 hours away ).

The only park that I know of in NE Texas where you can see gators is Caddo Lake SP near Marshall. I did go to Atlanta SP (near Texarkana) last weekend, but didn't get to see much of the park, so I don't know if they can be spotted there.

What I' am trying to do is find a park or accessible Wildlife Refuge/Management area that has plenty of them so that I can get some good pics.

Brazos Bend was great (got some great pics down there), but again, I can't always afford to drive all the way down there. Heck I know that the Fort Worth Nature center here in DFW has some gators, but there are not that many of them, so seeing one when you go there is still a rarity.

Any suggestions appreciated!!

Seems like those areas would be too far north for there to be plenty of alligators. There might be some, but not as many as south east texas, I would bet

Not NE Texas, but I photographed these at the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge near Rockport, TX. Official Site of the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge Complex If you stay in Rockport, its a short drive to the refuge one day, and on the second day you can visit the beach at Port Aransas.

Thanks! Great pic! I just checked out the website and got a bunch of good info. The next time that I can afford to go down to the coast, I will be making a trip to the Refuge there in Port Aransas. I like the fact that unlike Sea Rim State Park (which is 23 miles one way from the nearest city, Port Arthur), Aransas is just outside of the nearest city. One thing that I really liked from what I saw about Aransas NWR was the Auto Tour route.

Go look around Caddo Lake, you will find lots of gators there. Just go east from Jefferson or NE from Marshall and follow the signs.

Since I' am an outdoorsy type of guy, I am not afraid to get close enough to a wild creature to get a good pic. Of course, I' am not like other idiots that you see on you tube in that I don't provoke any wildlife when I ecounter it; especially alligators because I know that if i p*** one off, I will more than likely lose some appendages or worse.

I always pay attention when I' am walking around in the home of dangerous wild animals, and still maintain a safe distance. I will admit that at first, I was very nervous about getting close enough for a good shot, but after a while, it didn't bother me anymore. If I knew how to post pics here on CD, I would show a few pics from my April trip to Brazos Bend, where I got photos of countless gators up close.

Can anyone tell me how I can post photos on City Data? I got a few cool pics of some gators from my Brazos Bend trip a while back.

Ugh. I will never canoe in the south, and tubing down a river? Not gonna happen!
