My fiance & I are wanting to relocate from Fayetteville Ar to the Metroplex area but just outside city limits & have enough room for our animals (no livestock just domestic). We want to be able to drive to work without spending $150 in gas weekly!!! Arkansas is a bit too country…for myself.

I grew up in Grapevine & loved it! True to my Texas. It's home. Now after graduating college the fiance & I are wanting to move back. He is a welder & I a graphic designer, so work distance needs to be priority, not schools.

Just wanting some input on different towns that might fit our discription. Ive checked out a few just between Abilene & Ft Worth but still looking…

Depends on where your job(s) are, but if they are in the core downtown areas of Dallas or Ft Worth, it's nearly impossible without spending 30-60 minutes each direction in a car (and busting that $150/week gas budget if the two of you are commuting to different jobs).

That said, depending on where you're working, Aubrey, Haslet, Granbury, Waxahachie, Kaufman/ Kaufman County, Heath, etc might work for you. Grapevine isn't really "country" any more....it's a fully developed major suburb.

If you just want suburbs / ex-burbs where lot sizes tend to be larger, check out Colleyville, Flower Mound, Prosper, Westlake. These tend to be $$$.

There's a whole lot of nothing in between Abilene and Fort Worth. Brownwood is about the only decent town in that part of the state. Mineral Wells has been dying a slow death for decades, and so has Cisco. Eastland couldn't even keep a Starbucks in business. Your fiancee won't have problems finding welding work, but graphic design is goign to be a profession where you will need to live close to a large city.

What's your budget for housing? This will help us find places within your price range. Also, you will need to find jobs before deciding where to live, or you could face insane commutes across the metroplex.

If your animals are just domestic ones, then any of the outer-ring suburbs will be just fine. But you will have to deal with lengthy commutes to and from work. Why not move back to Grapevine?
