This is House Bill 998 and you can see the text and status here Texas Legislature Online - 82(R) History for HB 998 . You can also sign up for an account and place it on your "Alert" list to update you if its status changes.

Don't be surprised if it does make it through Committee and on for a vote. If it appears the stand alone bill might fail another Representative or Senator can introduce an 11th hour bill and tack it onto some other piece of legislation that they know will be voted in favor of. Unfortunately that is how politics works!

Personally I feel that this is overstepping the bounds of sane law as the issue is already covered under other statutes. I would have to wonder if this Representative has any ties to the insurance industry?

Default 1 million bites per year in the USA

Look it up...there are 1 million bites per year from dogs and cats. Apparently the owners are not being responsible..So, pass a law to remind them to be responsible.

And as far as the people coming from the East...Yeah, they bring money and jobs...Is anyone griping about that?

It's not the 18th century anymore...There is no more "wild west" - people wanted to live better...And part of that is protecting their children from irresponsible pet owners.

You shut up with your logic and reason. That has no place in a discussion about what Texas ought to be. This is Texas, dammit. We ought to be able to do whatever the hell we want because we're special. If you don't believe it, just ask one. They will pontificate endlessly about it.

migee, you're the one who is allergic to animals and thinks that laws should be passed requiring people who have them to change clothes when they come to work so that you won't be exposed to clothing that might have been exposed to animals, right?

The one who won't go get themselves tested to verify allergies, and who won't get shots because you shouldn't take responsibility for your own health but laws should be passed requiring everyone else to do that for you?
