My granddaughter lives in San Antonio and since I am soon to retire I would like to live near her. Since I have lived in Michigan my entire life, the heat and terrain of San Antonio isn't what I am used to. I don't need to live IN San Antonio, within even 200 miles would be okay. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cooler climate and a more rolling type terrain?

Try Kerrville, its in the Hilll country and a few degrees cooler according to the weather guys! I could never really feel that much of a change. Lots of retired folks there. About 45 min NW of SA. Other than that 200 miles is not gonna get you any real different.

Hi Alice,
Hope I can help. A cooler climate--anything north and North West of San Antonio will be great. However, rolling hills will be East and South East of San Antonio in the towns of Seguin and Gonzales. "Rocky" rolling hills will be North of SA. The England-type, quilt/patch/carpet-style "rolling hills" will be the above mentioned towns. These are about 1 hour away from SA. It's funny, the northern towns of SA are also about the same distance from SA.

Price wise you're going to be paying something around 5-10k an acre in the hill country, but anything South of SA will be around 2-4,500k an acre.

We looked in the area east and west of SA spending a good bit of time in Kerrville and surrounds. The slight elevation gain helps a little but we still found it uncomfortably hot and humid. Found a good deal on a house on the golf course but the $14,000 a year in property taxes dimmed the attraction. We finally decided being within an hour of a major airport gets us to family quickly and we settled in Washington State.
