I was wondering, what shopping is there in the area. Grocery, Mall, Home depot? Thanks everyone.

Yep! All the above.

There's a mall with Macy's, movies and Fuddrucker's. The usual places but not high dollar stores. There's a Home Depot, Lowe's, Big Lots, Target and Best Buy. There's a big WalMart w/grocery. And whatever the Walton outlet store is called.

The local grocery chain is H.E.B., local to central Texas but has all the standard grocery expectations. HEB is Howard E Butt. The standard high school joke is (and this I learned in the 60's), what do you call his swimming pool....

Austin is only an hour away and on the way there's an outlet center with all the usual outlet shops, like in Georgetown or Round Rock. I usually know where I'm headed in that direction so I lose track of where I am. You will make the journey to Austin, billed as the live music capital of the U.S. Not to mention the largest state capital building in the U.S. and the University of Texas - Sports R Us.

Save up some bucks, you can probably find a good deal on a house. There's lots of active Army around here so turn over is common.

You can expect to find standard suburban shops in Temple. I remember the mall being very limited, but you have Killeen, Waco, and Austin nearby if you need more options. As tofurkey said, there is also outlet shopping in Round Rock.

Yeah, you just reminded me, Killeen has all those big box specialty stores along the highway. No lack for shopping there, then head back to Harker Heights for beverage relief.

You say that as if they are any better (bolded cities).

No. The bolded cities have a greater selection of stores, which is to be expected with their larger populations.

Oh, how I miss the Beer Barn on Veterans Memorial

Really??? The most upscale store Waco has is probably Dillard's. They don't even have a Macy's like Temple.

How could that possibly matter? The only purpose of either store is to sell the same brand name merchandise, with some house brands thrown in. I've discovered I prefer Academy for house brands ...and... better prices.

It matters because Waco offers pretty much the exact thing Temple does. I was just saying; I've never heard anyone traveling from Temple to Waco for shopping.

Please point out the part of my post that said "upscale."

Both Waco and Killeen have a greater (not necessarily better) selection of stores because they have larger populations. It's common sense.

Quite frankly, I couldn't care less where the OP shops. I don't receive a commission if people shop in one city versus another. It's really not as serious as you're trying to make it out to be.
