I'm not sure if I'll find anyone on here who can help me, but I figure I'll post on here to see if I can get any information. I'm looking to move to San Angelo in the next 6 months or so with my wife, and we're considering helping my in-laws relocate out the area if we can find suitable accomodations for them. They're both getting up in age, and my father-in-law especially has a variety of medical issues, the most difficult of which for their situation is the fact that he recently lost his eyesight. I know San Angelo has several assisted living homes that I've found online, but I can't find any information about them.

Does anyone happen to have any experience with any of these assisted living low income apartments/housing? I'm going to start going through the list and calling them one by one, but I'm currently about 7,000 miles away which makes visiting them personally a bit complicated. I want to find an affordable place for them, and we'd like them to be near us, but I really don't want them to go stay in some roach infested building falling down around them. I know this is a long shot, but if anyone has any input about the low income options in/around San Angelo, I would greatly appreciate it.

My grandmother lived at Christian Village and it's very nice. Sorry I can't help you with any other places but have never heard anything bad.

Welcome to San Angelo.

Check out these. The Rio Conchos are owned by the same group but are 2 different locations.

Retirement Living in San Angelo - Baptist Retirement Community

Rio Concho West

Rio Concho Manor

Plaza Del Sol is lower income but are fairly new (1996) and on the new side of town.

Thanks a lot for the info, I really appreciate it. I'll definitely check out the Plaza Del Sol and the Christian Village communities when I get the chance (the internet filter here at work chooses some truly random sites to block). The only issue is I'm wondering how long of a walk it is from the parking lot to elevators/aparments; my father-in-law can walk, but not long distances and that is a significant problem that complicates their situation even farther.

The housing communities actually look really nice but that is a little more of a longer-term solution than what I'm looking for, and it isn't really affordable (well, maybe with Section 8/HUD if they qualify for that). I appreciate the different suggestions though. I'm willing to consider any options at this point.

We just moved a relative to San Angelo. The best bargain we found was the Rio Concho downtown. I can't remember if the apartments were Section 8 or Hud, but even the ones that were not Section 8 or HUD are very reasonable. However, my relative did not like the Rio Concho for a variety of reasons--Primarily the apartments were not large enough or modern enough for her.

We chose Christian Village, which is the best of all that we looked at--best maintained, reasonable prices, (Doesn't cost any more than 30% of adjusted income if you qualify). Up to date.

The Plaza del Sol is fairly new, but it is not as well maintained. We saw a number of maintenance issues when we visited.

These are the major inexpensive elderly housing units. My ranking is:

1. Christian Village
2. Rio Concho West
3. Rio Concho East
4. Plaza Del Sol--either complex
5. Rio Concho Manor
