For your mountain house google This End Up for Furniture. Will last a life time and you just replace cushions every 5 to 10 years for a new look.

We painted with a very, very pale gray. We used in our entire house and love it. The bright white, even in the darker rooms, was just too stark in our first house. Some rooms have now been repainted different colors, but for the initial painting (contractor) we had to choose a single color.

I agree with running the back splash out farther. Wouldn't have thought so, but about a month ago the wife was pan frying some steak and when she picked up the lid a chunk of fat popped. What a mess! The worst was the wall paper. I got it all off but it took a bunch of work.

I look at that picture of the three doors all in place and think "milestone". Nice.

Oh wow thanks for the tip! I just moved into a new house and am shopping furniture. That is exactly what I'm looking for... all wood and can be stained to order. Whelp there goes another pile of cash, lol. At least this stuff will last pretty much forever.

mdp_az- Thanks for the input. To be honest, either High Point or Hickory is too far for me but we have to do it. Wish us luck.

RSMTN- Thanks for the furniture info. I wish I could do it all on-line. I could do all of it on-line except for the couch. You need to actually "sit" in a couch to see if it feels good.

Bones- I told Mike what you said since I have no clue about that. He is now thinking of a backup propane generator. Things change everyday.

Tek- I know what you mean about the back splash. Years ago as I was cooking Italian sauce it splattered all over my stove wall. When I tried to clean it I ended up taking some of the sheet rock off. Oops!

It was nice to see the doors in but we still have so much finish work to still do.

JoshB- We have 38.5 acres from ridge line to ridge line. We are kind of in a big bowl.

Lisa

Hi Lisa and Mike,
Loving your progress and story as ever, thanks again so much for sharing your journey with us all.
As for the back splash, defiantly all the way to the cabinets. You can also use some smooth coated laminate or other material that is easy to clean and looks nice with a contrast to the tile counter top, just a thought. Remember whichever you choose, to use the right, (washable, long lasting) caulk and grout. You would assume they all are if they say "kitchen and bath" but they aren't. Read labels very carefully. Just my 2 cents

Default do your homework before driving for furniture shopping...

I recently drove to Hickory to look for furniture without much of a map or homework. The "marts" are WAY overpriced. You need to, like I will before my next trip, look for the individual outlet and manufacturers. Also, consider discounters as well, like BigLots - occassionally they have some nice "leftovers". I got a great Lane bench there, with cedar interior and all - for a lot less than some of the "brand" stores in town.
Great job on the home building and the story telling. I look forward to seeing more of your handiwork.
