I have two residences. Therefore I have cars at both homes which are in different states. I keep my drivers license in the state that I live. My car insurance in the other state wants a me to get a drivers license in that state even though I don’t live be there. I don’t travel the cars back and forth as it is across country and I can’t get smog done in the state where I live. So where can I get insurance without that states drivers license.

Every state has their minimum requirements for Liability Insurance. Might be better to call an Independent Insurance Agent. Good luck and if you're so inclined, please let us here at C-D know what you have discovered.

If you have two homes in two different states, can you title your car in only one of the states?

My husband and I own a home in Missouri and another home in Illinois. We have Missouri ID cards and Illinois Driver's Licenses. Is it legal and ok to have all our vehicles titled and registered in Illinois? (They don't have property tax on cars yearly). But yet pay Missouri taxes through work (we both work in Missouri).
Best Answer: Only one home is your legal residence. This would normally be the home where you spend most of your time, and are registered to vote. This is also where you list as your residence on your federal tax return.

If you are legally a resident of IL, you can and should title your vehicles in IL..

I don't know this agency or their agents but maybe you should call them and see what they advise you, for your particular circumstances. It may end up you will have to do something which has been suggested, get that states drivers license.

I used to live in California and had a vacation-someday to be retirement-- home in Tennessee.

One vehicle was left in TN and 2 were in CA. Each had title and registration in the state they were located in. They were also insured in the state they were located in. BUT I did use State Farm for insurance in each state. The policies were issued at a local office in the state the vehicles were located in as the insurance offices can not work across CA lines.

Driver's license was ONLY for CA as that was my home.
