Does anyone know who to call about a large, dead tree on city property? This tree is on an easement behind my house, and if it falls will likely fall directly onto my house.

So far all I have gotten is the run-around. Anyone have any ideas?

What kind of easement is it? An easement doesn't make it city property. Unless it could affect an overhead line, it's probably your responsibility if it's on your property (or whoever's property it's on).

If it's city property, it's city property. I thought you meant in was an easement on your property.

I don't know who to call in your town. I would send the city a letter stating the dangers and that you plan to hold them responsible for any damage to your home (do it nicely, of course). You might also contact your insurance agent and see if they can help.

Good luck, especially dealing with a government agency.

Thank you, Alleycat. I am sure I can use all the luck I can get.

Have you tried the highway department? They have to maintain roadways and such so I thought this might be a good place to try...

Highway - Text Only (http://www.hamiltontn.gov/textonly_site/highway/Default.aspx - broken link)

Maybe 311 too?

Thank you so much! The highway dept referred me to 311, and 311 said they wouldn't do anything about it unless it was going to fall into a roadway. No, it's just going to fall onto my house and possibly kill us or our kids!

I got an estimate from a removal services this afternoon. I am just going to have him chop it down and haul it off.

Thanks so much for all of the helpful posts.

Geez sorry about your luck. How unfortunate that you have to pay to remove THEIR tree! It wouldn't happen to be near a power line would it? That would be great as the EPB will take it down if it's a threat to their lines.

You might try a timber company for salvage wood. Google your closet forestry agency.

Maybe, but I doubt it. Usually timber companies don't want trees anywhere near where people live. Too great of a chance of something being in the tree (nails, pieces of fence, bullets) and ruining their saws.
