Hi, my family and I currently live in Michigan, and are planning on moving to Tennessee within the next year. I have scoped out a few cities and I would like any info, good or bad, about Newbern, Tn. Thank you.

Newbern is a tiny town in West Tennessee known most for having an AmTrak stop. Other than that, there's nothing there. It's in Dyer County, if I remember correctly.

I live in Newbern, TN and to give you some insight; I am also a truck driver and very familiar with other areas such as well every little town between NYC to SO-CAL. I was a little unimpressed when I traveled around and quickly realized that pretty much every little town coast to coast is basically the same, so don't expect to much. Anyhow I will try to shed some light on my area and county for you...

Newbern is basically a suburb of Dyersburg, TN located about seven miles south of Newbern. It is an industrial town, major industries include

Jimmy Dean sausage, Cass plastics, Royal Guard vinyl siding, Dana, Briggs & Stratton, Siegel & Roberts auto fixtures

restaurants

Subway, Sonic Drive In, Bad Bob's Memphis style bar-b-q ( I recommend ), Mom's buffet

four convenience stores one 24hrs, two video stores and two small banks

Although Dyersburg as I said before is near and has shopping malls and so on this is pretty much where everyone else goes. Jackson, TN is about 45mi. away which is the largest "city" nearby and about 85mi. away is Memphis and roughly about 2hrs away is Nashville.

I live in an average median home ($65k)
I make $55k-60k (but I work for a company out of state) average pay around
$10hr I would expect (from talking to neighbors)
average rent I would think $375 and up for 2 bedroom house
crime is fairly low, yes there are drugs and gangs but not that prevalent (you
probably wouldn't see unless you were looking)

*hope this answers some of your questions*

Talking Yes,Theres folks here.

Hello,
I do hope you choose to move to this map dot.I recently moved from north Ms just south of Memphis,Tn,and let me tell you its night and day.Im married and have one child in school and a new baby. The schools are great and very small.I was schocked when they only had 4 kindergarden classes! He had a great teacher. It is a very small town, but people here are very KIND to each other.Theres one grocery store and it has pretty much everything you may run out of and the only pLace I ever buy meat. Its not expesive to live here at all.The brand new house my husband and I bought for a less than 110,000 would have been at least 150,000 where Im from.If you have kids its the kind of place where you can let them play in the yard with the neighbor's kid and not worry that they wont be there when you check on them. Everybody kind of watches out like that.Ive met so many nice people from here and they have made me feel very welcome. If youre used to fast paced, tons of resturaunts and stores, this entire area is not where you need to be.Jackson or Union City are not too far and they are bigger.Jackson has a Sam's and tons of things to do and go eat and it takes about 40 minutes to get there.Anyway,I know Ive written a book, but I will be honest I cried when we drove through here.b/c I was used to a diffrent life and now its wonderful.I like feeling safe and can leave my door unlocked when I run to the store, b/c if someone pulls up and starts loading up, my neighbors will alert the police. Its given me peace of mind for my babies. thanks
