and veggies? I'm hoping to find a place that has fruit and nut trees already producing. Some berry bushes would be nice. And I want to grow organic tomotoes and veggies. The stuff they sell in the stores is full of poisons and not nearly as nutritious as homegrown organic. Plus the prices are going through the roof...and I'm sure it's only going to get worse. Then you add on almost 10% tax and it's ridiculous.

IF you're an organic farmer and are familiar with the climate zones, then you'll know that nut trees will produce nicely, apple trees love the climate. Don't expect to grow lemon, orange or grapefruit here. Figs, do fine, other fruit tends to be summer cantalope etc.

I hope when you say Gatlinburg, you mean rural Sevier or one of the surrounding counties. Gatlinburg itself is tourist only. It is a tourist town all the way. But your trees should do well in the rural parts of Sevier and the other counties.

That's not entirely accurate. Gatlinburg is very touristy, yes, but people do also live there. There are houses in Gatlinburg, subdivisions, and schools. I used to date someone who lived in a real house in Gatlinburg with a couple of pear trees in the yard.

I was going to say something similar JMT, there ARE many houses and a community in Gatlinburg but unless you go off the main drags, you can't see them and sometimes even then, you don't realize that behind a lot of those trees/woods are homes.

Default Thanks so much for your replies.

So far it looks like we will be moving to Gatlinburg...hubby likes tourist towns. I think I will like it, too. It seems to provide a bit of everything...and a lot of traffic, too, I know! Right now, we're still stuck in Florida...like all the other Tennessee wannabes. My husband will be retiring in one year. If all goes well, we'll be on our way shortly after that. I can't wait!
