Wow, these posts make it look like majority of people in the Tampa Bay area don't want to have one. I looked around in my sub-division and over 90% of the people have one.

I won't exchange mine for public ones because they are, well, public

Haha exactly. I love pools and I live in NJ where its only able to be used around 4 months of the year.

Theres something about being able to just take a swim whenever you want within 30 seconds... Plus its something nice to have for guests and parties.

Pools are mostly for Florida new comers as they look so nice and convenient when you are only visiting for a week or two, owning one full time is expensive and time consuming and most Floridians have had the novelty wear off,My Dad used to own a pool installation company and after a few pools in our back yards that some one might use once a month future houses we lived in were all pooless.

Default Pool

Had the pool put in with the house, kids were small and I got plenty of use out of it nearly everyday, the kids would be in there for hours, since there were no other kids on the block it took up their time, plus the exercise they got. Now all the kids are grown and gone, the pool sits there empty, not one person has used it in about 5 yrs. even when company comes, they think its too warm.......thought of putting Koi fish in there......between the cost of chemicals and my time, oh well.

Why did you put a pool in if you dont like swimming at all? I mean if you havent had the urge for 5 years, clearly you dont like swimming....

Is there something that you need to do to pools in the South that you dont in the North? I hear people on this board talking about pool services and such. In NJ Its really not much work to own a pool. Its a chore, yes, but its less time consuming then mowing the lawn, etc. And while there is an expense involved, its nothing crazy
