Forgive me in advance if this topic has been beaten to death. Today I sat with an insurance broker to transfer my New York Auto Insurance for 4 cars to Florida, Plant City.

My Rate DOUBLED!!!!

Is this true, or is this Allstate agent misguided? I have Collision on two 2004 cars, one 19 yo driver in college and one 24 yo driver. According to the estimate my annual insurance costs will be $10,000!

Has anyone else been quoted rates this high?

Help!!!

Thanks
Al

wow, ours is high and we have a 17 yr old son and 19 yr old college dtr and two others with 3 cars and it doesn't come to that much, but then maybe it's because 17 yr old son isn't on his own car yet. I think we pay around $4500 annually with State Farm Ins

Try another agent. Unless both cars are Bentleys and you have half a dozen DUIs between you, that rate is insane.

that is the craziest thing i have ever heard. I was 25 (27 now) when I moved to tampa with three tickets on my license. I bought a new BMW and have 300K coverage with a 50 deductable on EVERYTHING, my policy is about $1800 a year.

luckily all tickets have fallen off. i think i am paying about $1400 a year now.

Well, we pay almost $4000 a year for 3 cars, just my wife and myself, so I can believe that number when including the kids. I am continually amazed at the auto insurance rates in the Tampa area - and we came from California, home of crazy rates!!

I personally think $4000 a year is insane, but $10,000 is preposterous considering Allstate has me rated as a Platinum Customer with 22 years with the same company with NO accidents or tickets for myself, my wife, and my daughter.

The quote just for me; 50+ male is 1251.98 for 6 months for a 2004 Cadillac SRX with $500 deductible? WTH?

I moved here from NY recently too. My auto insurance rates dropped by over 50% from what I paid in NY with the same coverage for a newer, more expensive car that I bought down here.
I had Nationwide coverage in NY, I switched to Mercury Insurance down here. Find a better broker.

Unless there's something you're not telling us about someones driving/claims history, your rate is way too high. Did your agent offer any explanation? I would call around to other companies and get quotes. I would be really surprised if you ended up paying even half of what you were quoted. Rates here are fairly high, but 10k is over the top.

Check around I found Allstate and State Farm to be higher than other ins. companies in the area. Call Progressive I think they give you prices on several companies.

This probably doesn't apply to you but credit rating does affect your car ins. rate too.
