Hello, I have a question about renter’s rights in the situation where a home is sold around the renter. There are a few houses here in Florida I have been looking to rent but the houses will still be up for sale during the lease period (12 months). I was told by an agent that once the lease is sighed I would be safe. If the house was sold say… 2 months later, I would either be allowed to stay in the home until my lease was up or if the buyer wanted the house vacant they could buy me out of my lease. However, I was told by another agent (this one through a friend) that once the house was sold, the buyer had no obligation to honor the rental lease and could evict the renter after 30 days.

So to sum this question up…… If I rent a property and it sells soon after…. What would my options really be?

Sorry if this qeustion is too vague...

A buyer purchases the house subject to the lease. Unless your lease says you have to leave if the house is sold, the new buyer has to honor your lease.

I am not sure. It is to my understanding that they do have the right to give you 30 days to get out. I have never heard of the new owner having to honor a lease agreement that the previous owner had with you.
