Default Safe Areas arount USF & UT

UT is located in downtown Tampa, the immediate area is a business district, so it is pretty much deserted after 6:30. Residential areas run the gambit, as with most cities, the residential area in close proximity to the city are not great, but take a 5 - 10 minute bike ride and you are among some of the most expensive real estate in town (Bayshore Blvd, Hyde Park, S. Tampa).

USF is firmly in suburbia, the area known as the "University Area" and situated immediately to the west & north of campus is not good for young families or single college students, immediately north of campus is a commercial area that has lots medical centers, however, if you go 5 minutes...

To the east is Temple Terrace a really lovely place with large and small homes, some on the Hillsborough River are very pricey. It is great for growing families visit their website: Welcome to the City of Temple Terrace or the entry on wikipedia.

To the south is Terrace Park, which is within the City of Tampa limits. I am the Secretary of the Civic Association. I've been here 10 years moved from Temple Terrace for lower taxes (we're on the west side of 56th st considered the major road through Temple Terrace). Very diverse, working class, low or no crime (I'm new to this, but if I figure out how, I can attach the crime map that the Tampa Police Dept provides to our group - they are hard to read though, if you don't know the areas roads).

Check out some of the older posts, one has a photo of the Hillsborough River in Temple Terrace which is beautiful. USF has a park 15 minutes east of campus on the river where you can rent kyacks.

Thank you for your input. What can you tell me about USF? My daughter is considering going there but she would be a resident on campus so I am trying to find out as much as I can about the school and the area.
