Just signed a year lease for a condo rental. Less than 24 hours after signing, noticed several large bugs in the home and a couple other minor flaws. The bug thing proved to me a major issue, and I want out of the contract. Haven't even moved in yet. Do I have any rights in this situation?? Am I screwed??? Is there anyway to get out of this and not 100% lose my first, last and security dep?? I know I'll lose some cash.

It seemed to be a nice place here in tampa, but because of these bugs, i don't think I can stay. I completely understand i should have been more thorough in my inspection prior to signing. Is there hope for me, though? Any help??

Is this the first time living in FL? Better get used to bugs, they are part of FL not a reason to break a lease, enjoy your new home. Oh, and buy a can of Raid.

no, lived here for several years and haven't had the problem. Saw a few giant cockroaches and several big spiders in this place that i hadn't seen when i first checked it out.

If some one has moved and left the doors open to move the stuff out which is normal...the bugs could have come in. I agree witht the previous posters, just spray or have your LL do it and the problem will be gone. You will get used to bugs or have to move to a different State...wait until the love bugs come. It isn't bad at all, you just have to get used to seeing some bugs. Good Luck!

I agree. Ask the landlord to rectify the problem. If you decide to break the contract, I'd seek the advice of an attorney first to make sure you aren't going to be sued later. As long as they aren't the small german roaches, I'd say you should move in still...unless there's an ulterior motive to your decision you aren't telling us about...

My first apt in Tampa palms had the same bug problem and after a year of the landlord spraying and my efforts to keep the apt nice and clean those bugs kept coming from everywhere it was a total disappointment for me but after my lease was up i packed up and left. The next location i moved to (New Tampa) i didnt have to put up with bugs. I didnt mind the big ugly bugs outside but I absolutely refuse to live with them you should talk to neighbors to see if they are having the same problem and for how long?! I think if you are not happy dont fake it talk to your leasing office b/c less than 24hrs I'm sure they wont hold you responsible for a whole year lease. Good luck in whatever you decide but dont sacrific your happiness for anything.

Maybe you can work out something if spraying doesn't help. I understand that bugs don't belong in a house but outside...I also agree that the New Tampa area and Wesley Chapel is a great area. Make sure you don't lose your deposit and first and last month, try to solve it.

You could also try a fogger. I found those best to work the best for obliterating ants and fleas. after that then a monthly spray should do it. You should tell the landlord now that you want out if it's not resolved but if it's a nice place otherwise it's worth a shot.
