Hello Floridians!

I'm starting to research the St. Petersburg/Tampa area as my partner and I are ready to relocate from Seattle. We are originally from Boston, MA.

I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on the area. We will be renting for now, looking for a single family, dog friendly home near the water (typical, I know!) How's housing?

We are boat loving, outdoor, food/happy hour lovers. Leaving Seattle because we have family in Orlando and get stir crazy staying in one place for too long. Is St. Pete's a good place for us?

Also, I am a marketing/pr professional who will be continuing in the field. What's the job scene like? I don't necessarily want something corporate, I would even prefer working for a smaller business.

I know that was a bit of a ramble, but I'm trying to get a good idea if this should be on my list as good places to live in FL. Open to other suggestions also!

Thank you all!!!!!

P

I think St. Pete would definitely be for you as well, based on what you said. Enjoy! Seattle is a nice city. I know what you mean about not staying in one place for too long.

St. Pete should be a good fit. There are a lot of great neighborhoods near downtown, walkable to the Bay and lots of restaurants and bars. Try Old Northeast, Crescent Lake, and Uptown. Kenwood is great, too, but it's not walkable to the Bay or beach. For housing, I would plan a trip and drive around neighborhoods of interest. There are not many publicly advertised rentals outside of apartment complexes. For single family homes, you often need to drive around the areas you're targeting and ask around.

St Pete most like anything Seattle side. Except our rain spells are shorter and summers much hotter.
Job wise, the salaries a much lower but then housing will be much lower than in Seattle too.

Yeah, the weather is dramatically different. Seattle's summers are incredible - warm but not too hot, with little humidity. Tampa Bay's summers are like a sauna and seem to last forever.

But the vibe in St Pete is similar to Seattle, just less developed.
