I'm writing from Kauai, so please bear with me, but are there geckos in Tampa year-round? I suspect that it gets too cold for them in the winter, but perhaps I'm wrong?

Thanks!

I don't see many (if any) at all during winter. If they are it's rare, but that's the same with the anoles.

What's the difference between anoles and geckos? Not sure what one I see more of but when I visit my friends in Tallahassee, I love being the first one to leave in the morning and see them all scatter on the walkway. They're so cute!

I've never seen a gecko in Tampa. I have seen them frequently at my inlaws down in Ft Lauderdale though. I do see the anole's year round in Tampa. Winter is basically two weeks in January, they're still around even then.

I've been curious about them too being new to Florida. Our westie enjoys chasing them but I definitely don't see many during the winter now, only recently have I noticed one or two hanging around the porch. Google is telling me now they do their own version of hybernating during the winter.

Geckos are these things. They are a different species than the anole. I've only seen them out at night.

They live on our lanai year round. We had a very warm winter this year and I saw more than ever. They're cute--one of them sleeps on the screen of the kitchen window every night.

There's quite a few outside the house, most are yellow and p**p all the time. We've had a mild winter this year, so i could see them around in Jan and this month. They are better to deal with than centipedes in HI.

Why are you asking?

Are the lizards clawless (which to me would be a gecko)? I ask because I was in SW FL recently and saw geckos, but wasn't sure if their winter range went as far north as Tampa. We're considering leaving the islands, and Tampa is on our short list.
