Volunteer Opportunities In Tampa (St. Petersburg, Clearwater: live, horse, health)

We just found out that due to an inlaw's declining health that the family holiday gatherings aren't going to take place this year, and probably are done for good. (Bummer)

With this in mind, we are looking for volunteer opportunities for not just the holidays but something that would be ongoing. We know the usual places, like Metropolitan Ministries, for example, but were looking for something a little more "intimate" for lack of a better description as well as something that's more "direct" as well.

I know there is a web site with volunteer opportunities you can review and sign up for, but I was curious as to what, if any, volunteer experiences forum members might have and be willing to share.

I would add that we are not currently members of a church, nor are we interested in joining one, so that's not an option.

Something relating to family/children/women's shelter would be our area of interest. We were active volunteers for a women's shelter in an area we lived in previously.

St. Joseph's Hospital has volunteer opportunities. Other hospitals closer to you might have something similar. More on their website here --> Volunteer

If you're willing to drive out to Riverview, Riverview Horse Rescue is always looking for volunteers. I don't know if you are the kind that would like to work with horses but I figured I would put it out there incase anyone in the area is interested.
