Came across this report today. Lots of effort has been put into improving the water quality of the bay.

Latest state of the bay report summary:

  • Sea grasses are returning to the bay at a record pace of 660 acres per year.
  • A net increase of 433 acres of emergent tidal wetlands has been documented since 1995.
  • Overall water quality in Tampa Bay is as good as it was during the 1950s, despite more than quadrupling the human population in the watershed during that time.

Not surprising. The bay was a toilet when I was a kid.

The bay was getting bad in the 50's. The flow to the bay was cut off pretty bad with all the bridges that were built since the late 20's.

It wasnt that, it was the dams on the hillsborough and manatee rivers and lake tarpon that did it.

And all the companies just dumping **** into the bay.
