Can anyone suggest a reasonable place to rent for about 4 nights in the Tampa area? Would like a condo so we could have kitchen for coffee and a balcony on the water if possible. Are there any areas better to stay than others?

Post Apartments on Harbour Island was renting units nightly. Ueed to be about 125 per night I think. Great location and you basically get an apartment. I think the Mariott Waterside was or is controlling some nightly units in Channelside. Not waterfront but near.

Every condo community that I have owned or acted as a board member of had a restriction on short-term rentals in their condo docs, so I would be a bit cautious on something that is offered for rent unless that person lived locally and/or in another unit on the property.

For example, in one community I am familiar with, if you were neither the owner nor on a long-term lease filed with the association and you locked yourself out, the management company would not come to your aid and would probably ask you to leave the property. That could ruin a vacation in a hurry.

What I am saying is that most condo communities do not allow short-term leases, so you would not be a "legal" guest in the eyes of the condo association/management.

Any rental agreement that you sign with an owner would be in violation of the condo docs, so, for example, if you lost your keys and were locked out of the condo, the property management may not only deny you assistance, but may demand that you leave the premises. At the most recent property I owned, the management company would take calls from 1) owners and 2) renters with an approved lease on file in the mgmt office. It would be a huge security violation if they just let anyone call them up and request access to a unit.

YMMV, but be cautious when signing short-term condo rentals in Florida.
