Hi all! My husband and I are hoping for some insight from you fabulous Tampa folk.

We are planning a move to the Clearwater or St. Pete areas. We came down from SC last month and checked it out, we are coming back in August to check it out some more. We plan to start looking for jobs down there around Christmas and we are pretty anxious to get going.

My question to you is, as a 26 and 30 yr old couple who love the ocean, kayaking, and just about anything outdoorsy, shopping, etc..which area would you recommend? Could you give me some definitive pros and cons that can help sway us in a direction?

Thanks everyone!
Candace

St. Pete is more of a city than Clearwater. St. Pete has a very nice waterfront, concerts, and a fairly vibrant downtown. Clearwater has the beach. Downtown Clearwater is pretty much the Church of Scientology and is eerily quiet even during the middle of a work day.

thanks for your input, I think a city lifestyle would be more what we are looking for so maybe St. Pete is the way to go!

Pretty much agree with ferret - I'm a native of the area (born and raised in Tampa) and I do not like Clearwater. The downtown is weird and sort of creepy with all the Scientology people, and the beach is very, very congested, making it one of the worst beaches in the area, JMO of course.

St. Pete does have a nice downtown, vibrant, museums, parks, lots to do - and has excellent beaches. Just more of everything good in St. Pete.

Hope that helps.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me! Thanks for the help!

My next question is, how far out is it possible to work in order to avoid the traffic as much as possible. Like, I know I wouldn't want to live in St. Pete and commute to Clearwater for work...sounds like that would be a good 45 min drive. What about Largo or some of the other outlying areas? The reason I'm asking is because it may be difficult to find the type of job I need (hospital IT) in one specific area, I may have to branch out to the surrounding areas to find something.

St. Pete to Clearwater takes 30 minutes for me, both coming and going. I live in St. Pete and work in Clearwater. St. Pete wins by a landslide.
