I highly recommend the Asheville or western NC area. If you're lucky enough to live in Elko NV why not move to Spokane or the southwest. But do NOT move to the land of the inbreds where it is always 1930 and always will be.
You do realize western NC is in the South and Appalachia. Sorry you had some bad experiences, get your ass on a plane and move to Seattle!

1. You say there is "zero culture," in Tallahassee, but then go on to list things that count as culture (football, drinking, automobiles, etc). Germany is a country with a drinking culture that loves football (a different kind) and automobiles with quite a bit of a black eye for its 20th Century racial history, would you say Germans lack culture? Sure, I don't agree with a lot of southern iconography, but to say the area is lacking culture or only trashy rednecks is a bit too broad of a brush.

2. Are you really bringing up the 2000 election that is over a decade and a half old?

3. Do you really think nepotism only happens in the south? I was born in NY, and it happens there just as much as it happens here. Want proof? Read how Donald Trump inherited his billions, or "open a history book" and see how the Kennedy family ran Massachusetts for years or the Roosevelt family ran New York Sate.

4. You're really going to attack live oaks and palms? What else are you going to do, attack residents for having non-native puppies and kittens that also trigger your allergies? Also, here is a link to an extensive list of both native and non-native palms that can grow and do grow in North Florida:
http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ep359
And here is a link to a map that shows how live oaks are native to pretty much all of Florida:
http://eosmith.com/wp-content/upload...s-Combined.jpg

5. The feds always have to save the south huh? That's weird, because the riots in Ferguson, Baltimore, Cleveland, and New York all happened in cities and states that were never part of the Confederacy, yet the protesters were pretty upset about how the local governments and police were attacking and killing unarmed black men. But sure, dig up sixty-year-old narratives to keep telling yourself that the south is the only racist part of America, or that the federal government needs to only save the south from its local officials and their corruption.

I'm sorry this poster has had a miserable time in Tallahassee, but anybody looking to move here should know that it used to be known as "The Berkeley of the South," and while that may not be entirely the case these days, Tallahassee (and almost any mid- to large-sized city in the south) has experienced an explosion of growth and diversification since the 1970s. Will you see rebel flags and pickup trucks? Absolutely, but it is getting to be rarer these days and given Tallahassee's record for voting in nearly every major election for about twenty years, I doubt you'll feel like you're living in some ultra-conservative wasteland.

I think you've watched too many episodes of Green Acres, dahling. Farming is very, very hard and complicated work, and if you've never done it before, well, you'll end up w/ that corn that Oli-vah grew that looked like sticks. That's if you're lucky. Seriously, I can't see this working. Maybe intern on a farm for while and see what you're getting into. I am not even going to list the things that could and will go wrong, and that's with experienced farmers!

No I haven't watched any episodes of Green Acres. Believe me I know all about the hard work farming!! I grew up on a farm where we grew most of our vegetables, had some fruit trees and farm animals.
I remember my parents always working hard and not having time for us kids. I left for a big city in my 20's.
But I've always missed the fresh organic food. So now I want the same experience for my children.
I'm sure we'll make some mistakes starting a farm in a new place regarding weather and/or soil type.

But thanks for your concern.

Wow! That's sounds pretty bad! Are you sure about being it that bad?? I believe that there's still a lot of nice people in the south!!
I noticed that you want to move to Dayton, Nv. Well it isn't the prettiest place in Nevada but people are pretty nice.
Hope you'll be happier here!

That looks very good! Thank you!

Thank you Southern man! I haven't find anything in our price range in Thomasville. But we are also looking in the Athens area and north Ga.

I just left Tallahasse for Alabama and agree with others that it likely is not a good fit for your wish list. I loved it for my purpose- finishing my career. It is a really nice place to live. Part time work is hard to find because of the high percentage of university and college students who are also looking to work. Properties are hard to come by. In addition, property taxes are very high and there is little cultural activity. Think lots of irrigation for growing in Florida and sandy soil, but I have seen beautiful raised community gardens in Tallahassee. You might try Thomasville, GA as someone stated or think Alabama. The people in Florida's small towns can be, as anywhere else maybe, very insulated, and may not consider you a neighbor if you don't have generations of roots there. I know of a professional who had to leave because the locals squeezed him out. On another note, IMOHO, the medical service in northern Florida leaves a lot to be desired. For that you may want to be closer to central Florida. The quality of schools can be iffy. The better schools may not be near farmland. Would you consider homeschooling? That would be my choice. I would suggest you consult weather patterns and stay out of tornado allies, etc. when you do purchase, and plan your emergency options. Alabama has tornados. Florida has hurricanes. Another option is Marrianna, Fl. Lots of farming and raising cows. This is about an hour west of Tallahassee and puts you about 45 min from the beach at Panama City. You might find farm property also in Monticello, FL on the east side of Tallahasse about a 30 min drive. So from your list you might want to prioritize wants, and settle for anything else. All the best.

This may be true in the Panhandle, however Jacksonville has great medical services including Mayo Clinic, Baptist and St Vincents Hospital systems as well as a Level I Trauma center at UF Health( formerly Shands Hospital).
