We're looking into these two cities based on the positive posts we've read and doing some of our own research. Just wanted to know if there are any specific areas we should stay away from (crime, etc). Thanks!
Syracuse is a city and has many virtues of any city. There is culture, dining, universities, yet there is crime, polution, poverty and so on. The school district is pretty rough. B'ville is a suburb of Syracuse and is a small town, better schools and pretty country side.
Sure Vegas, Liverpool, Camillus, Dewitt, Manlius, Onondaga Hill, Cicero, Clay, they are some suburbs that I looked at and found all are very nice. If you want to live on acreage in the country, Marcellus, Tully, Chittenango, are all fairly close to the city but more countryside, with lots of farms. Most areas offer both, that is village small town living or wide open countryside.
Wow! I have the same question. What about Geddess, New york? What's that like? We are thinking of looking at houses there. We are in our late 50's and want to live there, not rent to students.
What I found is that real estate lists houses as "Fairmount" or "Camillus" when in fact it is in Geddes. Can't Geddes stand on it's own? I feel we are being swayed with the Fairmount or Camillus name and the agents are trying to blind sight us into thinking we're in either of these two areas and we're not. What's wrong with Geddess that it can't stand on it's own? Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks a great deal!!
I grew up in Fayetteville and went to the Fayetteville-Manlius schools, and as much as it was socially difficult, I got an AMAZING education. Definitely would recommend it. Also, Fayetteville is a cute little place to live. I was born in B'ville, and my mom moved us to F-ville when we were young. I do remember having lots of playgrounds and a nice house in B'ville ... good place for kids. But the school are much better in F'ville, and I think F'ville's a much better area. I'm not sure if that helps ya, but let me know if I can answer anymore questions!
My parents lived in the Village Green apartments when they first got married and they said it was a good place to get started. I'm not sure about any other apartments, though, as we lived in Radisson, a newly developed housing area. Liverpool is near B'Ville, I would say around 15 minutes. Some really nice neighborhoods, but again, not too sure about apartments. Sorry!
I have been told - and have seen with my own eyes- to stay to the north of Syracuse as far as the burbs go. Southern Syracuse is not a desireable area crime wise. Liverpool is nice, as is B'ville, cicero, Manlius etc.
Go to removed for more info on housing. The apartments up there are rediculously cheap for NYS!
I lived in Liverpool and loved it. There are a lot of apartments available. I was in a very nice complex right off of I-690/John Glenn Boulevard, Grenadier Village. It was only a 15-20 minute commute to Downtown Syracuse. I loved it, but due to my job had to move. I would move back there in a heartbeat!
